Up to 30,000 people are expected to attend the Christmas in the City event in the Sydney CBD from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.

Roads between Martin Place and Pitt St Mall will close for the event.

- George St and Pitt St between Hunter St and King St will close from 4pm to 11pm.

- King St between York St and Castlereagh St will close from 5pm to 11pm.

Motorists travelling citybound on the Western Distributor should use the Bathurst St off-ramp to avoid delays. 

The City North King St off-ramp remains open however heavy traffic is expected while closures are in place on King St north of York St. Motorists can continue north east via Sussex St, Kent St and Clarence St or south via York St and Sussex St.

From 7pm to 7.45pm rolling closures will be in place as the Santa Sleigh travels from Circular Quay to Martin Place via Alfred St, Young St, Bridge St and Pitt St. For the return trip from 8.45pm to 9pm, the sleigh will travel to Town Hall via Pitt St, Market St and York St. Short term closures and delays are expected as traffic is held at key intersections.

Special event clearways parking restrictions will be in effect from 3pm to 11pm on sections of Hunter St, Pitt St, King St and York St. Clearways are strict no-parking zones even for local residents and RMS Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies.

Notes:

1. No exit to George St from No. 1 Martin Place car park.

1. Managed local access to driveways under contra-flow from Market St including 420 George St, MidCity Centre, Dymocks, Myer, and Westfield Sydney.

2. 4pm to 5pm:managed access to carparks and The Westin via Hunter St

2. 5pm to 11pm:managed access to carparks north of Martin Place via Hunter St:Secure Parking 109 Pitt St and Wilson Parking Angel Place (prepaid parking). Managed exit contra-flow to Hunter St.

2. 5pm to 11pm:managed contra-flow access to The Westin and No. 1 Martin Place car park via King St only. Approach via Castlereagh St and King St under temporary two-way traffic control

  • King St 1 between York St and Castlereagh St
  • Lees Court 1 from King St    

Notes:

1. Managed access to King St via Castlereagh St under temporary two way traffic control, for Wilson Parking – MLC Centre, Secure Parking 135 King Street Glasshouse & Westfield carpark, Lees Court.

1. No access to/from 400 George St loading dock on King St    

SANTA SLEIGH MOVEMENT ROLLING CLOSURES

Roads will be progressively reopened as the sleigh progresses. Closures affect both directions unless stated otherwise.
